@*Shoutai A collection is just like folders in a gallery. You should still thank them for a fav if it's a collection.

@~neptunestears I don't get that very often (Hit and runs that is), but I've gotten a couple and I get annoyed too. I mean it isn't too hard even to say 'I think this is cute' (sorry referring to my own gallery), at least than I can assume they faved it because it was cute.

I see where you're coming from...
A lot of fav hit and run's seem to occur when fan art is involved--I've experienced it with my own posted fan art--to a point where I was so disenchanted with the feedback (or lack of it) that I disabled comments on them. Mostly, it was pretty awful and I didn't give it my best the way I did with say, the pictures of my original characters.

The way dA acts... as if drawn obsessively to fan artwork... is a whole other discussion, but I'm guessing it's your fan art suffering from the "H.A.R.S."
However, this article helped me understand the reasoning behind most of the well-meaning folks who seem to express their appreciation for your art in probably the most effortless way available (a fav and no comment) [link]


As a general rule though, you probably can't expect too detailed of a comment from someone that doesn't know you very well.

From a visitor's perspective, I have left thoughtful commentary for a stranger's art on a few occasions (even maybe asking a question or opinion) and gotten along the lines of a hasty "thx [insert emoticons here]" or "ty :]" which, to me, is just as off-putting at times. I just don't like to leave my critique or "more than a sentence long" commentary anymore.

The gracious artists that take time to acknowledge their fans are rare, and I know that it gets difficult when the volume of fans becomes unmanageable...But even a nice attitude CAN come across on the internet, and yes, continuing speaking for myself, I must still be old fashioned because I still appreciate it! If anything, that makes me inspired to think of new ways to express a fondness for that artist's work.

No one stated that they hated collections because of Hit and Runs, but I guess I should have figured. You shouldn't hate collections anymore than favourites though.

I have general collections like 'Adorableness to the Max' and 'STAMPU', but they are used to help me keep my faves organized. Of course I've only hit and run once and that was because I was tired.
